Forest School

At our school, Forest School is a valued part of school life and provides every child with the opportunity to learn, explore and thrive in the natural environment. All children take part in a Forest School session every other term, giving them regular opportunities to learn beyond the classroom walls.

Our Forest School programme offers a wide range of exciting and engaging activities, including:

• Fire lighting and campfire safety
• Team-building challenges and cooperative games
• Woodland crafts, such as dream catchers, bird feeders and fairy houses
• Storytelling around the story chair
• Mud kitchen play
• Gardening and growing activities
• Wildlife exploration and nature studies
• Den building and outdoor problem-solving

Forest School is a child-led approach to learning, encouraging children to follow their interests, be curious and develop independence. Through outdoor experiences, children build resilience, confidence and perseverance while learning how to assess and manage risks safely.

As well as supporting learning, Forest School helps children to develop positive friendships, communication skills and a deeper appreciation of the natural world. The inclusive nature of Forest School means that every child can participate and succeed, regardless of their needs or abilities.

Our Forest School area is also available at lunchtimes where needed, providing a calm and nurturing space for children who may benefit from some quiet time, additional support, or a break from the busy school environment. Children can relax in our hammocks, enjoy nature and regulate their emotions in a peaceful setting.

Together with our much-loved therapy dogs, Forest School adds another important dimension to school life. It supports children's wellbeing, emotional development and love of learning, helping them to feel happy, safe and connected with both nature and their school community.

We believe that some of life's most valuable lessons are learned outdoors, and our Forest School provides children with memorable experiences that inspire confidence, creativity and a lifelong respect for the natural world. 🌳🍂🔥🐾
