Welcome to Class 1 with Mrs O'Donoghue, Miss Turner, Miss Tucker and Mrs Guy
Spring term was a very busy term for Class 1 with lots of exciting things that happened!
Exmoor Zoo Visit
It started with a visit from Exmoor Zoo. Steve brought in lots of different animals and talked about their habitats to us. We saw snakes, cockroaches, mice, woodlice, giant African land snails and he even brought Rascal the meerkat to see us!
Burton Art Gallery
We had a fantastic trip to the Burton Art Gallery to attend a printing workshop where we made collagraph fish as well as explored the Lego exhibition. We had such a brilliant time! We even entered our own prints to the annual schools exhibition and won!
In Science, continuing our habitats unit, we took a trip to Northam Burrows where we explored rock pools and looked around the visitors centre. We learnt so much to support our learning back in school!
Class 1 have been working really hard with NumberSense and learning number facts to 20. We have explored these practically and understood what it means to add and subtract with numbers within 20.
In Design Technology, the children created bunting to help the children in FSU learn their numbers to 10. They conducted market research to help them understand what their client wanted, worked as a team to create their bunting, think about the design and how to represent the numbers on the bunting. Don’t they look fantastic!
In PSHE the children been learning about health and well-being. They have explored emotions, what they are and how to deal with them and made worry worms to help them when feeling anxious.
We explored the importance of keeping our bodies healthy - made healthy breakfasts which they look home to enjoy and how keeping our teeth healthy is important.
We put eggshells in different drinks to see the effects! We couldn’t believe this is what happened after only 2 days! The eggshell in vinegar totally dissolved!!
In Maths we are enjoying exploring number practically.
In Art we're learning about the surrealist artist Joan Miro and having a go at creating our own surrealist pictures.
