We are very proud of our school and have a very happy school environment. We think of our school as a family and are well known for our caring ethos. Children enjoy coming to school and are given many great opportunities to develop their learning and also develop themselves to become the best they can be.
Monkleigh village is situated in a rural setting about four miles south of Bideford and three miles west of Great Torrington in North Devon, just off the A386. The local economy is based on agriculture and there is a strong community spirit in the village with the school playing a vital role.
The school was built by a local family and established in 1875. The main building still remains and houses our Key Stage 2 children in 2 classes, but there have been additions over the years including an extra classroom, and new office areas. To the front of the building is a fully resourced Foundation Stage Unit, taking children from 2 -4 years and to the side, a purpose built EYFS classroom, with a fantastic outdoor play area.
The school is well equipped to teach ICT with chrome books, laptops and ipadsfor all classes.
The school has a good sized playing field [approximately 2 acres] to the rear of the main building that has a football pitch and Forest School area. It also has a large hard play area (full sized netball court). The school places a high emphasis on outdoor exercise and outdoor activities, offering a range of sports throughout the year. We attend as many sporting festivals and competitions as possible and have recently been the awarded the Platinum sports award for the second time!
We are continually looking at ways to develop our school and make it even better. This website will keep you updated on these exciting developments.
